A Body of One’s Own arose from a collaboration between Élise Argaud and the dramaturge Marine Relinger on Forme(s) de vie, a dance show Relinger, created with choreographers Éric Minh Cuong Castaing and Aloun Marchal, which was presented at the Festival de Marseille in 2021. Élise lives with Parkinson’s disease. When she is not dancing, she moves as though she were—very slowly—refusing a treatment whose side effects she fears. The filmmaker’s camera adapts to Élise’s pace, to the movement of her thought, accompanying the continual reinvention of her way of existing in the world and of engaging with illness.
